Pairings

Artist's Statement  For the last two years I've been working with the ancient medium called encaustic, which is beeswax colored with earth pigments. In this series I call "Pairings",  the sculptural and textural qualities of wax free me from the rigors of observational drawing. Instead, the focus is on the joy of spontanaity- a process is very much like the way I cook- tasting and intuiting my way towards something complete and balanced. While some names refer to aromas and tastes, others describe fleeting moments of discovery. In the final presentation, I paired each of two finished pieces to create unexpected "visual flavor" combination or gustatory experience.
